Sunset Elopement in French Polynesia

Traditional weddings are always interesting. Aside from being timeless, they prove that love is pure and has no culture. Take for example Kara and Jay’s sunset elopement. It was indeed a celebration of joy and love! While they seem conventional, the rituals they have done were essential to any traditional Polynesian wedding.  Check out their beautiful customs below and if you have any other favorite wedding traditions, let us know in the comments below.

Kara and Jay onboarded a canoe going to an islet for their ceremony.

Blowing the conch shell signals that the ceremony is about to begin. After that, leaf bracelets were tied around their wrists and they were blessed with coconut water.

Then, they were wrapped in beautiful red and white Tahitian quilt. It symbolizes that they are now one.

Traditional songs were played and Kara and Jay were invited to dance too! Such a joyous occasion!
