You know what this styled shoot reminds me of? Underwater nymphs! The team decided to go along with the enchanting vibe of the underground cave. There is no need for decoration for an unusual yet captivating setting like this. Aside from the cave’s beauty, the models/couple also dived in and took some good underwater shots, too. If you can brave the water just like them, I urge you to go for it. You can have a mystical session that you can look back to and share with your family and friends.
There is something magical about the Cenotes (underground caves) that are sprinkled around the Riviera Maya in Mexico. They are so romantic and dreamy, they blend so well with weddings.
To keep with the romantic and dreamy feel of the Cenote we lined the stone pathway with tea lights. The location was naturally gorgeous, so we didn’t want to detract from that.
We embraced the Mexican location by attaching colorful flowers in Kaley’s hair and adorning her feet with flower “sandals”. Her bouquets was a mixture of these flowers and seashells.
For the brides wedding dress we felt a flowy and romantic strapless gown would be perfect, but we made sure to include the bling every bride deserves. We kept the groom simple in a linen shirt and pants.
The biggest we challenge we faced was all the fish getting in the bride’s face when we were doing the underwater shots!
The Theme:
A dreamy and magical underwater shoot at a cenote in Mexico.
The Challenges We Faced:
We had exactly two hours to take these photos before we had to catch a plane back to Toronto. So time was a definite challenge. We hadn’t been to the location before the photo shoot so getting everything set up and choreographed was a challenge. The groom we had for the shoot did not get back to us, so luckily the photographer’s assistant was also a model and he stepped in!
The Decor And Details:
We had planned for a lot more decor and details, but the natural beauty of the cenote dictated we edit a lot of it out. We kept the one hundred tea lights for inside the cave and decorated the bride’s hair, rather than the location.
This Concept:
It is dreamy and magical. The location provided an ethereal and romantic backdrop to showcase the couple.
A romantic, natural and bohemian couple would adopt this theme.
Sometimes less is more and we wanted to show that in this magical underwater photo shoot.
