Today’s feature is not an engagement, not a wedding, BUT a hometown reception. Becca and Justin’s wedding was originally featured here and was shot as a destination wedding in Curacao a week prior to this event. They treated this Minneapolis reception like a full wedding – complete with it’s own theme, new dress, cakes, details, and more. The vintage themes were simply to die for. To couples who are doing a destination wedding, a hometown reception is a great idea to be able to celebrate with people who were not able to make it when you tied the knot. Extra Special Details
The wedding venue. The major detail of this wedding that made it special was that it was in Curacao. Becca and Justin decided to have in it Curacao after attending a friend’s wedding there. They were married on a ship that was very similar to a pirate ship and after the ceremony, they brought the group of thirty friends and family members out into the Caribbean Sea to swim, eat, and dance. Before anyone else went swimming, the bride and groom dove into the ocean with all of their formal wear on, which is when we obtained the underwater photo, which is our favorite wedding photo we have ever seen.
The bridal dress. Becca’s dress was originally a size ten dress that she had brought down to a size two to fit her petite frame and it was perfect for the vintage theme.
The decor. The reception was at the Day Block, which is an amazing venue, and it was decorated with pearls, vintage cigar boxes, wine bottles, and more.
Multiple themes. The groom, along with many people in the wedding party, is a pilot, so they had a secondary theme regarding travel. The cake topper was a pilot and his bride in a plane, their guest book was actually a globe, and they had postcards from all over the world placed on the tables.
Tips From The Photographer
♥ The biggest piece is that, the day will NOT be perfect. Do not expect it to be. If you accept that, you will relax much more.
♥ Get your photographer ASAP. Becca and Justin had a photographer before us and then decided to go with us and it was just by chance that we were still available. – Have fun – the day will be over before you know it. –Tracy Hansen
