Cheers To The Cantwells

Alissa ♥ Claye

We’re featuring today one of the best reception parties where all guests packed the dance floor to show their dance moves, which included a soul train style moment. The fun was crowned with the bouquet and garter toss, one of the rowdiest and funniest moments of the night. The bride shares, “…the rest of the night was filled with dancing, almost everyone was on the dance floor.” Truly it’s heartwarming to see guests enjoying on your big day. Alissa and Claye, congratulations!

How It All Began

From the bride:

Claye and I met through a friend. It wasn’t a meeting to necessarily “introduce us”, just a random get together, but he was such an easy person to talk to. He made me laugh hysterically even though I just met him and was as handsome as one could be! From there he asked me on a date and we just completely hit it off. He blended so seamlessly into my friends and family and vice versa. From there we were inseparable and was really just “meant to be”.

How He Popped The Question

Claye and I are both lovers of all things Mexico and since we live in San Diego that’s and easy thing to do. We had discovered the city of La Paz about a year before the engagement and just fell in love with it. So for Claye’s 30th birthday I rented a big house in La Paz for us and 14 of our closest friends to go down there. The first night we got there, we walked to the Malecon (La Paz boardwalk) to eat dinner at Bismarkcito a local seafood restaurant . We all sat down to eat and Claye brought over a round of shots to give a toast to everyone thanking them for making the trip down for HIS birthday. At the end of the toast he said he brought everyone down for another reason also…and then got down on one knee. — Alissa

Extra Special Details

The wedding style. When asked what was the wedding style she picked, Alyssa answered immediately “BONNIE CHASE!!! Bliss Events Los Cabos”, praising her wedding coordinator as “the best planner I could have asked for and just got me”. The bride described herself as not being the “best at style, picking colors, etc” and said she left a lot of decisions up to Bonnie. She wanted something really simple so that the focus would be on the beach, the sunset, the water and most importantly the love that Claye and her would be going (and are!) sharing.

The wedding colors. They picked white and silver and the bridal gown, a beautiful St. Pucchi Couture from The White Flower in San Diego, had silver accents decorating the bodice. The bridal bouquet as well as bridesmaids’ flowers were comprised of white assorted flowers and succulents.

The bridesmaids’ dresses. They were a dark gray with glittery dark details, light and fresh, beach appropriate.Whites and metallic colors were requested by the bride to be “dusted by some light green succulents”, which she says was actually the groom’s idea and single request. Alissa describes it as “beyond perfection!”.

The tables. They were absolutely beautiful, instead of table numbers the bride wanted to have a different bottle of tequila to designate what table guests were seated at and then allow guests to pour their own tequila shots and “Cheers to the Cantwells” which was also their hashtag (#cheerstothecantwells). Each unique bottle was displayed over a mirrored round base stand, with twikly lights on its bottom and accompanied by flower centerpieces. For the sweetheart table, the piece of resistance, the Clase Azul’s tequila bottle. The seating chart was cleverly designed to have each name card held by a lemon.

The wedding reception. Held at the event terrace at the Costa Baja Hotel, it faced a portion of La Paz’ marina and is surrounded by the beautiful rocky hills, typical of Baja California’s landscape. The swimming pool at the terrace was illuminated by floating candles and underwater light giving a nice blue shimmer to contrast with the pink event lights from the dance floor, located underneath the big palapa right next to the dinner area.

The twist. Instead of the traditional cake cutting, Alissa and Claye, knowledgable as they are of Mexican culture, chose to have churros and paletas (Mexican popsicles) served after the dance floor was opened.
