Fun and Laid Back in Key West

Mike and Melissa found the ideal place for the fun and laid back wedding they wanted. At a beautiful resort in Key West, they created an intimate wedding that will inspire you. Mint and purple were the main colors that they chose to go with the festivities. It was a fun and romantic day for Mike and Melissa together with their family and friends. Take a glimpse and read more to see how everything went down!

The Theme:

I used a lot of mint and purple colors but not necessarily a theme for the ceremony. As far as the beach part goes, we were going to do a lot of flowers and decor at first but then we decided that we didn’t want to take away from the organic beauty surrounding us already. At the Casa, they have two beautiful palm trees that are perfect to marry under and with that plus the ocean we didn’t want anything else.

The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Projects:

We had a sand ceremony, and I had made the box that the glass jars with sand went in. I used a texturized spray paint and stained the wood hearts, then for my first attempt played with an engraving pen to write our names on the hearts. The programs I made on blank rack cards using the website Zazzle, I had my bridal party send me a funny bit emoji photo and used that next to their name. Another DYI project was the wedding favors that were “lyrics in a bottle.” Our names both start with M, so I ordered M&M’s in our wedding colors to place in the glass bottles I had purchased from Hobby Lobby. Then I took thick paper and printed my favorite music quotes on them. I aged them by soaking them in cold coffee and coffee grinds and finishing by burning the edges. A friend of mine made the place cards with sand dollars and puffy paint.

Favorite Part of the Day:

With having a small wedding, we were lucky to enjoy ourselves and be able to engage with each of our guests and not forget a moment of our day. So to pick a favorite part is not possible with so many moments being beautiful. We were lucky, it was so stressed free and amazing!

The Outfit Inspiration:

I was never a little girl who planned out her wedding, but one thing I always knew I wanted was a dress with off the shoulder straps. The rest of the outfit choices, both bride, and groom were chosen to go along with the organic beach feel.

The Highlights from the Ceremony & Reception:

Highlights from the ceremony was walking down the beach with my dad towards my future husband and the sand ceremony were we got to involve our daughters and truly blend our family together, it was such a special moment that will always be remembered. A funny moment was when I kept messing up the vows even though all I had to do was repeat them; I got so nervous being in front of everyone! I’m normally a crier, so I thought the tears were going to come many times, but the moment that got me was my dad’s speech at the reception. I was so nervous having such a small wedding that we wouldn’t have a lot of people dancing but everyone was on that dance floor all night long, and that was a highlight. The best dance was my new husband Mike having a particular dance with our two beautiful daughters.

Most Memorable:

Hands down the sand ceremony.
