When couples think “destination beach wedding,” they often picture Caribbean islands, turquoise blue waters and giant price tags. However, there are more affordable destinations closer to home. One of those, Jekyll Island, is certainly worth looking into.
Just off the Georgia coast, Jekyll Island is an image to behold: stunning beaches, ancient live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and beautiful structures – some of which serve as the perfect ceremony or reception venues.
Resources
Jekyll Island is host to hundreds of couples each year looking to tie the knot, so they have a long list of vendors and resources that are quite helpful. If you’re not a resident of Georgia, you can apply for a marriage license in the county you’re getting married in. The cost on Jekyll Island is between $25 and $35 and there is no waiting period. No blood tests are given in the state of Georgia.
There are several vendors present on Jekyll island who can help, from officiants and florists to transportation, videographers and hair stylists.
Wedding Venues
There are a variety of beautiful venues ready for your ceremony and reception. If you’re looking for a historic venue, go with a site like the Faith Chapel, built in 1904. It’s located in the Jekyll Island National Historic Landmark District.
Another great option is Cherokee, a beautiful and stately home that will accommodate up to 50 people. Most brides have their ceremonies outdoors with their receptions in the main hall. There are 10 rooms available for rental, so it solves the accommodation and venue problems at the same time.
There are plenty of all-inclusive packages available from the vendors on the island, so it’s certainly worth looking into. In any event, Jekyll Island is a beautiful and affordable way to have the destination beach wedding you want!
